Set within a year after the events of Batman Begins (2005), Batman, Lieutenant Gordon, and new District Attorney Harvey Dent are on a mission to rounds up all the major crime bosses that plague Gotham City. Their plans are interrupted by a new and mysterious criminal mastermind known only as "The Joker" who creates a new wave of chaos across the city. Batman struggles to predict the Joker's next move and understand his motives, while placing his trust in Dent to become the hero Gotham needs, thus freeing him to give up the life of a crime fighter and pursue his would-be relationship with long time friend Rachel Dawes.
