U cinema age rating film certificate

As the Jellicle Ball approaches, a group of cats must decide among themselves who should ascend to the Heaviside Layer for a new, better life. The Jellicles will be pulling out all the stops – music, theatre and magic – to make their case, but who will Old Deuteronomy choose? Or will Macavity’s mischief dash everyone’s hopes? Directed by Academy Award winner Tom Hooper (The Kings Speech), this adaptation of the world-famous stage production stars Dame Judi Dench, Sir Ian McKellen, James Corden, Jennifer Hudson and Idris Elba.

Full film details

Each year, a group of cats meet up at the much-anticipated Jellicle Ball. Here, one will be lucky enough to ascend to the heavenly Heaviside Layer and come back to a new life. The choice belongs to wise Old Deuteronomy (Dame Judi Dench), and she’s looking for a cat with soul.

As Grizabella (Jennifer Hudson), Bombalurina (Taylor Swift), Jennyanydots (Rebel Wilson), Macavity (Idris Elba), Gus the Theatre Cat (Sir Ian McKellen) and the rest of the tribe gather at the annual event, each introduces themselves in dramatic and musical fashion, sharing interesting tales of their lives and showing off their unique abilities and special traits.

There will be masterful performances, there will be magic, there will be mishaps. But behind the fun tensions are brewing as Macavity promises, “going to the ball could get dangerous”.

Oscar winners Dame Judi Dench (The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Philomena, Skyfall) and Jennifer Hudson (Dreamgirls, The Secret Life of Bees) take the screen among an all-star cast. Grammy and Emmy-winning pop superstar Taylor Swift, Golden Globe winners Sir Ian McKellen (Beauty and the Beast, Lord of the Rings, Mr Holmes) Idris Elba (Luther, The Jungle Book, Molly’s Game) and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect, Bridesmaids, The Hustle) star in this adaptation of Andrew Lloyd Webber’s stage production, based on the work of T.S. Eliot.

Naturally, Lloyd Webber writes the score for this dramatic musical extravaganza with one song performed by Swift in the running for a Golden Globe for Best Original Song - Motion Picture.
