Parasite
Struggling to makes ends meet, the Kim family uncover a lucrative opportunity – faking their way into jobs at the Park family’s mansion and slipping into their glamorous lives. But can they keep up the façade when people with vested interests threaten to tear it away? Bong Joon Ho’s latest thriller picked up four Academy Awards and made Oscar history by becoming the first non-English language film to win ‘Best Picture’. The film stars Song Kang Ho, Choi Woo Shik and Park So Dam.
The Kim family are poor and unemployed. Living together in a basement apartment, they take whatever temporary work they can get their hands on to make some cash quickly. But a risky offer comes up that could bring excellent fortune.
Ki-woo (Choi Woo Shik), the son of the family, is encouraged by a friend to pose as a private English tutor for the daughter of a wealthy family, the Parks. Shortly after starting his role at the family mansion, Ki-woo starts to notice other opportunities in the house that his relatives can fake their way into.
Pretty soon, his sister Ki-jung (Park So Dam) is working as an art therapist, his mother Chung-sook (Chang Hyae Jin) is a housekeeper and his father Ki-taek (Song Kang Ho) is a chauffeur. But while they work to mix in with the wealthy Parks, there are others with something to gain from the household and they need the Kims out of the way.
Written and directed by Academy Award-winning Bong Joon Ho (Okja, Snowpiercer, Mother), this Korean thriller dominated the Oscars 2020, taking home the most awards. The film picked up awards for ‘Best Director’, ‘Best International Feature Film’, ‘Best Screenplay’ and made history by becoming the first non-English language film to win ‘Best Picture’. Song Kang Ho (The Drum King, A Taxi Driver, Snowpiercer), Choi Woo Shik (Rosebud, Okja, Train to Busan) and Park So Dam (Fukuoka, The Priests, The Throne) star in this dramatic scheme to gain wealth and comfort by hoodwinking a more well-to-do family.
