Full film details

Grace Jones could be described as many things, and by many words. Wild, fierce, or androgynous? How about all of the above?

Bloodlight and Bami looks beyond the singer’s public appearance, to discover Grace’s Jamaican roots, and exposes her soft underbelly as a daughter, mother, sister, and grandmother.

Venture back to the mid-seventies and early eighties, and you’d find Grace Jones at the peak of her career as a musician, model, and actor.

In what could almost be described as a previous life, Jones lived the first thirteen years of her life in Jamaica, where her life was a world away from catwalk runways and top-40 charts.

Bloodlight and Bami invites audiences to accompany Grace on a road trip across her native Jamaica, where the harsh roots of her childhood are uncovered, which ultimately helped to shape the person she became.

As the documentary film explores the layers that make up Grace Jones, she is ultimately uncovered as warm, funny, and a businesswoman with a serious desire to succeed.

Sophie Fiennes – sister of actor Ralph Fiennes – directs this revealing and intimate look at one of the most prominent musicians of the eighties. Alongside Grace Jones, the film stars music director, Jean-Paul Goude, who is the father of Jones’ child, Paulo.
