Full film details

Kit Monkman's reimagining offers and opportunity to experience Macbeth as never before.  In this screening, see Shakespeare's classic tragedy shot entirely on green screen.

The screenings in Lancaster and Oxford will be preceded by talks by Professor Alison Findlay (Lancaster) and Professor Emma Smith (Oxford).

Professor Alison Findlay is Professor of Renaissance Drama and Director of the Shakespeare Programme in the Department of English and Creative Writing at Lancaster University. She specializes in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century drama and early modern women's writing, and her books include A Feminist Perspective on Renaissance Drama (1999), Theatre and Religion: Lancastrian Shakespeare (2003), and Women in Shakespeare: A Dictionary (2010). In her introduction, Alison will discuss the film’s interpretive and cinematic choices, and suggest some key things to look for in the film itself.

Professor Emma Smith is a Lecturer in English at Oxford University. She has published widely on Shakespeare and early modern drama, editing and performance history. Her recent work is about The Making of the First Folio (2015), and the stories and ideas we like to believe about Shakespeare (Thirty Great Myths about Shakespeare (2012)). In her introduction, Emma will discuss the film’s interpretive and cinematic choices, and suggest some key things to look for in the film itself.
