Full film details

Sometimes, you have to go to the middle of nowhere in order to find yourself.

This is the case for Alan Clay (Tom Hanks), a washed-up, divorced businessman who has lost his wife, his house and his car, left with nothing but his briefcase and sour grapes.

In a last-ditch attempt to redeem himself, Alan travels to Saudi Arabia with the intention of pitching his wacky business idea, 3D holographic meeting system technology, to none other than the king.

What he finds in the desert is not what he expects – instead of the buzzing business community he thrives in at home, he must learn to navigate his way through a different culture, communicating with new people and embracing unfamiliar experiences.

On his journey he discovers an unexpected side to himself, and opens his heart to new friends, and new love. But in order to be truly happy again, he must learn to let go...

In doing so, Alan is forced to adopt a new perspective, and look at the wide expanse of golden sand not as a vast emptiness, but as an opportunity to achieve something great.

Based on the bestselling novel by Dave Eggers, A Hologram for the King is helmed by acclaimed German director Tom Tykwer (Cloud Atlas) and stars Hanks (The Da Vinci Code) alongside Sarita Choudhury (The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Parts 1 and 2) and Tom Skerritt (Top Gun).
