Brigsby Bear

Full film details

Centred around an animatronic bear who battles the evil Sun Snatcher, Brigsby Bear is the subject of cultish obsession for James, who lives and breathes the character despite being in his twenties.

When the FBI arrive at James’ secluded home and reveal that his parents are in fact his captors, the confused young man is set free into an unsuspecting world where he must try to find his way.

But, James misses the comfort blanket of Brigsby, and sets out to film his own version of the show, picking right up where the last VHS tape finished off. Can James new-found passion for filmmaking and his love of a robotic bear convince his new friends it’s a project worth pursuing, or does he need to put away childish things and finally grow up?

Brigsby Bear has charmed film festival goers and critics throughout 2017, who have warmed to its oddball charm and ode to children’s TV of the 1980s and early 90s.

Paying homage to the likes of Teddy Ruxpin, He-Man and Barney the Dinosaur, Brigsby Bear makes an interesting observation on childhood obsession’s and how these affect us into adulthood.

Directed by Saturday Night Live writer Dave McCary, the film stars Kyle Mooney (Zoolander 2) and Mark Hamill (Star Wars: The Last Jedi) in a rare role outside of the Star Wars franchise.

‘’A clever bit of fake 80’s nostalgia’’ The Atlantic

‘’Brigsby Bear is easily the biggest surprise film of the year and worth every laugh and tear that it brings’’ The Playlist
