Full film details

When a tragic car accident leaves investment banker Davis (Jake Gyllenhaal) widowed, he sends a cry for help in the form of a complaint letter to a vending machine company whose machine has failed to dispense his candy.

The letter attracts the attention of a customer service rep named Karen (Naomi Watts), who ends up forming an unlikely friendship with the distraught writer, who continues to bare his soul with a string of follow up letters.

With many problems of her own, Karen is compelled to meet up with Davis, and along with her son Chris, the pair attempt to help him get back in the saddle; but in order to move on, he must face up to his faults and demolish the fragments of his past.

Acclaimed director Jean-Marc Vallée has never been afraid to get his teeth into a gritty narrative, having directed Dallas Buyers Club (2013), Wild (2014 and Café de Flore (2011), all of which won numerous awards.

Jake Gyllenhaal stars as Davis, in a film that further expands his impressive resume of off-beat roles, having turned out fantastic performances in Nightcrawler (2014), Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Donnie Darko (2001).

Demolition also stars Naomi Watts, who has managed to balance roles in mainstream blockbusters such as The Divergent Series, with indie hits such as Birdman (2014) and Mulholland Drive (2001).
