Full film details

John Callahan (Joaquin Phoenix) has an alcohol problem, which turns into a life-altering catastrophe when he crashes his car after an all-night drinking session. Now wheelchair-bound and miserable, becoming sober is the last thing he intends to do.

But when his girlfriend, Annu (Rooney Mara) encourages him to enter rehab, he has no choice but to give it a try, or risk losing the one person he cares for.

Despite himself, John finds his curiosity piqued by his odd and endearing sponsor, Donnie (Jonah Hill). Begrudgingly, he participates in the programme, befriending other struggling misfits throughout the process.

Forced to confront his new circumstances and accept the fact that he won’t be able to do the things he used to, John discovers a new talent. It turns out, he’s pretty good at drawing controversial cartoons – and people begin to notice.

Gradually, John gains a following and begins to use his art as a way of reaching out to others – and healing himself – as well as insulting a fair few folks along the way.

Gently thought-provoking and darkly funny, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far On Foot is based on John Callahan’s memoir. Directed by Gus Van Sant, previously nominated for two Academy Awards for his work on Milk and Good Will Hunting, Joaquin Pheonix (Irrational Man, Her) stars, alongside Rooney Mara (Carol), Jonah Hill (War Dogs), and Jack Black (Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle).
