Full film details

Against the stunning backdrop of the English countryside lies the grandiose Crawley household, home to Lord Grantham (Hugh Bonneville), his family and their tireless servants.

There’s all the glamour of the manor house, the expansive estate and the charming servants’ quarters. But as ever, Robert, wife Cora (Elizabeth McGovern), mother Violet (Maggie Smith) and the rest of the family are never far from drama – especially when there’s a royal visit on the horizon.

When unexpected news reaches Downton that the King and Queen are coming to stay, Lord Grantham’s daughter, Mary (Michelle Dockery), is tasked with ensuring everything runs smoothly.

But she’s finding it more difficult than anticipated to manage the situation, struggling to organise the Crawleys and servants alike. Calling for a more experienced hand, she pays old friend and former butler Carson (Jim Carter) a visit to bring him out of retirement.

With the royal entourage making their way to Downton, Carson must bring order to the proceedings, all while working around the ongoing drama of the estate.

Following on from the much-loved BAFTA-winning television show of the same name, Downton Abbey stars an ensemble cast, including Dame Maggie Smith (The Lady in the Van, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Harry Potter film series), Michelle Dockery (The Sense of an Ending, Self/Less, Non-Stop) and Hugh Bonneville (Paddington 2, Breathe, The Monuments Men).

This historical drama, set against the political and social backdrop of the early 20th century, is one not to be missed by fans of the show or by newcomers.
