Lest we forget…

As the First World War draws to a close, an unlucky group of British soldiers are stuck in the trenches near Saint-Quentin following the infamous Operation Michael. Led by Captain Stanhope (Sam Claflin), whose mental instability and heavy drinking habit make him something of a wild card, the future of these young men is on shaky ground.

As claustrophobia sets in and the enemy draws closer, tension begins to rise as the soldiers must stand up and face their journey’s end.

Directed by Saul Dibb (Bullet Boy, Suite Francaise, The Duchess), Journey’s End is adapted from the classic 1928 play, written by R.C. Sherriff. Based on his own experiences as an army officer in the First World War, Sherriff’s play has been dramatised for numerous stage productions, and several films over the years, including Journey’s End (1930), The Other Side (1931) and Aces High (1976).

The film made its debut in the Special Presentations segment of the 2017 Toronto International Film Festival, where critics praised the acting talent and cinematography. Sam Claflin (Me Before You, Their Finest) heads up the cast at the troubled Captain Stanhope, while support comes from Paul Bettany (Captain America: Civil War) and Asa Butterfield (Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children).
