Full film details

Alice Woodward (Emily Beecham) is a senior plant scientist who works in a lab dedicated to genetic engineering and breeding new species. Unlike her colleague, Chris (Ben Whishaw), who keeps failing to produce a healthy plant that will survive more than a few weeks, she has managed to breed a unique crimson flower.

The plant is revolutionary not only for its stunning beauty but also for its healing qualities: if kept warm, fed appropriately and talked to on a regular basis, the plant releases a scent that makes the owner happy.

Soon Alice starts breaking the company rules, fast-tracking the plant’s development. She even manages to smuggle one of the plants out of the lab and takes it home to her teenage son, Joe (Kit Connor). They name it ‘Little Joe’ after him. But it’s not long before strange events occur. Has Alice made a dangerous error?

Little Joe is a sci-fi horror from acclaimed Austrian director Jessica Hausner and features a tremendous lead performance from Emily Beecham (Berlin, I Love You, Hail, Cesar!) who won ‘Best Actress’ at Cannes Film Festival 2019. She is joined by Ben Whishaw (The Personal History of David Copperfield, Mary Poppins Returns, Spectre) and Kit Connor (Rocketman, Ready Player One). The film boasts stunning production design, reminiscent of 1970s sci-fi and an eerie soundtrack that will keep you in suspense throughout.
