Full film details

For as long as he can remember, all Danny (Gabriel Chavarria) has known is lowrider car culture. His father, recovering alcoholic Miguel (Demian Bichir), lives and breathes cars, even naming his business Alvarez & Sons Motors in the hope that his legacy will continue.

But, some things aren’t meant to be. Danny is an aspiring street artist, who likes mixing with everyone from hipsters at indie gigs to surfers on Venice Beach. Anything to break away from the Latino lowrider culture stereotype which his father seems to embrace.

His brother, Francisco (Theo Rossi), is fresh out of jail and still in a midst with a long-term feud with Miguel. When Francisco asks Danny to spray car hoods for his own rival car company, the pair instantly rub their father up the wrong way.

With a lowrider competition at Elysian Park on the horizon, the competition heats up as old wounds are opened and the family unit begins to crack.

From the producer behind American Gangster (2007) and 8 Mile (2002), Lowriders provides a thought-provoking insight into modern Latino culture, tackling real issues and highlighting the negative stereotyping that Hispanics face day to day.

Gabriel Chavarria stars as Danny (War for the Planet of the Apes), whilst Melissa Benoist (Whiplash) plays his girlfriend and Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives) takes on the role of his mother.
