Full film details

Maggie (Greta Gerwig) isn’t afraid to live her life exactly the way that she wants to.

A young, single woman happily maintaining her independence in New York City, she decides she’s ready to be a mum and chooses to have a baby via artificial insemination.

As usual, everything goes accordingly – until she meets John (Ethan Hawke). Love derails Maggie’s hyper-organised life, and she finds herself pregnant whilst also tangled in a complicated affair with a married man.

But just as it can make life messy, love also has a way of working itself out in the end. John breaks away from his marriage, things settle down and Maggie finds herself surrounded by the little family she’s always wanted.

But sometimes the things we want aren’t truly what they seem.

When Maggie realises that she’s no longer satisfied with her relationship, she decides that both she and John need a change. But instead of simply breaking it off, she comes up with a plan where everyone wins: she decides to reunite John with his ex-wife (Julianne Moore).

This off-beat romantic comedy is directed by Rebecca Miller (The Private Lives of Pippa Lee) and was a hit at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.

Maggie’s Plan features a star-studded cast made up of both indie favourites and comedy A-listers, including Gerwig (Frances Ha), Hawke (Boyhood), Moore (The Kids Are All Right) alongside Maya Rudolph (Bridesmaids) and Bill Hader (Trainwreck).
