Biography on Tamil Nadu activist Arunachalam Muruganantham, whose mission was to provide sanitary napkins to poor women of rural areas, who would use rag cloths or leaves during periods where use of sanitary napkins was rare.
Pad Man is inspiring by the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, a rural welder who created a sanitary pad revolution in India by inventing a machine to make low-cost sanitary pads 20 years ago.
Arunachalam's story has inspired several other Pad Girls and Pad Boys in other countries and continents such as Africa, who have all played their part to try and improve menstrual hygiene in their local communities and beyond.
Taking on the role of Arunachalam is one of India’s most idolised stars Akshay Kumar, who recently produced and starred in Toilet: Ek Prem Katha (Toilet: A Love Story), the world’s first feature film on the open-defecation crisis – which philanthropist Bill Gates recently named as one of 2017 ‘amazing moments of hope and progress’ for drawing attention to India’s sanitation challenge.
This film is presented in Hindi with English subtitles.
