Full film details

Patti Dumbrowski (Cathy Moriarty) has a big attitude – and she needs it. Living in the run-down area of Bergen County, New Jersey, critics surround her, waiting to attack at every opportunity. She gets picked on for her size, her looks, and, most of all, her aspirations: Patti dreams of being a rap star.

Even her own mother (Bridget Everett) doesn’t believe that rap is ‘real music’, and is quick to remind her that people don’t tend to get out of small-minded Bergen County, let alone get famous. However, Patti isn’t just anyone.

The only thing stronger than her talent is her determination not to let anyone get the better of her. And the best way to silence the haters is to prove them wrong.

With the support of her oddball friend Hareesh (Siddharth Dhananjay), and her grouchy grandma (Cathy Moriarty), Patti teams up with a local producer. The seemingly mismatched outcasts begin to work together. They soon discover that when they pool their unconventional talents, they can create some pretty great music.

This off-beat indie flick from music video director Geremy Jasper was described by the New York Times as “the most endearing surprise” at this year’s Sundance Film Festival. Danielle Macdonald (Every Secret Thing) received high praise for her gritty-yet-charming portrayal of the most unique rapper New Jersey has ever seen.

This film contains a sequence of flashing lights which might affect customers who are susceptible to photosensitive epilepsy.
