Full film details

Jesse Owens (Stephan James) is fast. Really fast. Possibly the fastest man on Earth.

But in the sporting world of 1930s America, speed doesn’t mean instant success. In addition to being a world-class sportsman, Jesse is also an African-American, and the racist attitude he faces from his peers, both in and out of the locker room, would be enough to make anyone feel disheartened.

However, his determination exceeds even his talent, and Jesse is resolved to follow his dream of becoming a professional track and field athlete, despite the discrimination and challenges that stand in his way.

With help from his coach, Larry Snyder (Jason Sudeikis), he rises through the ranks, stunning stadiums and winning fans across America.

With the 1936 Summer Olympics in Berlin on the horizon, Jesse is close to showing the world what a true champion looks like.

But the shadows across Nazi Germany are ever darkening, and he finds himself in a moral dilemma – should he compete in a country that thrives on the oppression he has fought against for his entire life, or walk away from his greatest shot at glory?

Director Stephen Hopkins (Lost in Space) is the leader behind this biographical drama, starring Stephan James (Selma) as the runner who found success in the midst of a world in crisis, and Sudeikis (Horrible Bosses) as the man who helped him reach his full potential.
