Full film details

Plymouth Island is peaceful, tranquil, and quiet – which is exactly what Baker Dill (Matthew McConaughey) needs. A sailor and fisherman, he spends his days on the water, giving tours of the beautiful tropics and trying to forget the reasons he ended up there in the first place.

The pristine stillness is shattered when a woman from his past turns up – and she has a request that threatens to tear apart the simple life he’s tried so desperately to create.

Karen (Ann Hathaway) is his ex-wife. Strong-willed and ferociously independent, she’s not one to ask for help. And so, having tracked Baker down to plead for a favour, he knows she must be desperate.

Her new husband (Jason Clarke) is abusive and violent, and Karen fears for not only her safety but also that of her and Baker’s son. She has a solution in mind: Baker will invite her husband on a fishing trip so he can feed him to the sharks. Simple.

Despite his desire to leave his mistakes behind him, Baker finds himself being pulled into Karen’s twisted scheme. The deeper he sinks, the more he begins to question the new life he’s built on Plymouth Island.

Reality seems to crumble and he’s left grasping for the truth, wondering who he can trust, and questioning who he has become…

Directed by Steven Knight, the man behind Peaky Blinders, Serenity is a dramatic thriller featuring a star-studded cast, including Academy Award Winners Matthew McConaughey (Dallas Buyers Club) and Ann Hathaway (Les Misérables), alongside Diane Lane (Justice League), Djimon Hounsou (Same Kind of Different As Me), and Jason Clarke (Mudbound).
