Full film details

Kumail (Kumail Nanjiani) is a man with traditional roots, as his family are of Pakistani Muslim origins. But Kumail himself is not all that traditional…

He befriends and begins a romantic relationship with a white American girl named Emily (Zoe Kazan). And despite Kumail’s happiness, his parents are less than impressed with his choice of girlfriend.

Deepening their problems, Emily is suddenly waylaid with a mysterious illness, leaving Kumail to attempt to appease his own parents, while also dealing with Emily’s folks – Beth and Terry (Holly Hunter and Ray Romano) – whom he knows little about.

The Big Sick is adapted from the true story of lead actor Kumail Nanjiani’s journey with his now real-life wife, with both of their families in tow. Supporting him in the title role is Zoe Kazan (Our Brand Is Crisis), as well as the household names of Holly Hunter (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) and Ray Romano (Ice Age: Continental Drift) portraying Emily’s parents.
