When a pilot loses all automated control of his aeroplane more than 30,000 feet in the air, the aircraft appears doomed to crash. Can his skill save the passengers and crew against the odds? Based on the similar 2018 incident involving the Sichuan Airlines A319 aircraft, this feature is predicted to be one of the biggest Chinese films of the year.

Full film details

Captain Liu (Zhang Hanyu) has flown the path from Chongqing to Lhasa hundreds of times, with each proving little more than routine. As the next trip approaches, the pilot doesn’t see why this time should be any different. But, as soon as you begin to believe nothing can go wrong, you can be sure that something will…

Well underway, and cruising at 32,000 feet, all seems to be running smoothly onboard. But after Liu’s co-pilot notices cracks beginning to appear in the windshield, the whole screen suddenly shatters and the co-pilot is nearly sucked out of the aircraft.

With the depressurised aircraft in crisis, and the plummeting plane set to take the lives of over 100 passengers, Liu is left hoping for a miracle as the enormity of the challenge sinks in and he’s forced to manually control the chaos.

Directed by Andrew Lau Wai-Keung, this dramatic true story is based on the miraculous recovery of the Sichuan Airlines A319 and the real-life brilliance of one man who saved countless lives. Starring Zhang Hanyu (The Great Wall), Shu Chen (The Martian) and Xian Li (The Enigma of Arrival), this Mandarin-language production is presented with English subtitles.
