Full film details

Life in the coastal village of Sunnytown is blissfully peaceful until the much-loved mayor suddenly disappears. While he’s absent, the evil deputy mayor rises to power and builds a towering town hall to block out the sunshine. During a fishing trip in the harbour, Mitcho (Liva Elvira Magnussen) and Sebastian (Alfred Bjerre Larsen) unearth a bottle which contains an important message inside, along with a mysterious seed…

The message is from the missing mayor and states that he needs rescuing from the Mysterious Island where he has made a significant discovery. The letter also advises them to plant the seed.

Once the seed is planted, it miraculously grows into a giant pear. With the help of crazy scientist Professor Glucose (Peter Frödin), it magically transforms into a new home and later on, a boat.

The duo set sail in the giant pear to try and bring the mayor safely back home before the deputy mayor destroys Sunnytown forever. But their voyage is not without complications – they must navigate through the treacherous black sea, overcome dragon boats, cruel pirates and many more dangerous obstacles along the way.

An incredible Danish animation adapted from Jakob Martin Strid’s children’s novel of the same and directed by Philip Einstein Lipski (Ronal the Barbarian), Jørgen Lerdam (The Olsen Gang in Deep Trouble) and Amalie Næsby Fick (Go’ moren Danmark). The Giant Pear stars Alfred Bjerre Larsen (Albert), Liva Elvira Magnussen, and Peter Frödin (Shake it).
