Full film details

When 13-year-old Theodore Decker (Oakes Fegley) visits an art museum with his mother, he has no idea his life is about to change forever: the two are caught up in a terrorist bombing. Theo survives but his mother dies.

Grief stricken, he’s first taken in by Mrs Barbour (Nicole Kidman) but later moves to Las Vegas with his alcoholic and gambling addict father, Larry (Luke Wilson), and his father’s girlfriend, Xandra (Sarah Paulson). Growing up, though, Theo (Ansel Elgort) decides to head back to New York where he becomes skilled in forging antiques.

Throughout Theo’s chaotic life, his friend Boris (Aneurin Barnard), unrequited love Pippa (Ashleigh Cummings), and others continually come and go. But while disorder swirls around him, he always seeks to keep something he stole on that awful day close by – no matter what.

John Crowley (Brooklyn) directs this drama, starring Ansel Elgort (Baby Driver), Ashleigh Cummings (Hounds of Love), and Nicole Kidman (Boy Erased). It’s based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Donna Tartt about grief, art, and the difficulties of keeping your life together after trauma.
