Full film details

Ian Paisley (Timothy Spall) is a Democratic Unionist who believes Northern Ireland should remain aligned with the UK government. Martin McGuiness (Colm Meaney) is a fierce republican who has fought a bloody war to secure independence. The only thing these two men agree upon is that they hate each other.

And so, when the fate of the conflict boils down to the two men reaching an agreement, the entire world sighs. How can two mortal enemies even begin to find a way to work together?

The situation progresses from hopeless to impossible when the men are forced into close quarters, one-to-one during a long car journey. The British government stands by, holding its breath, as two men who couldn’t be further apart in their opinions sit side-by-side.

The drive begins as expected – the car is laden with tension as the men spew venom at each other. But as they navigate through a series of challenges, they begin to see past the contempt and find flashes of humanity within each other.

Nick Hamm (Killing Bono) directs this political drama, based on true events surrounding the Northern Ireland peace process negotiations. Timothy Spall (Denial) plays the stubborn Paisley, while Colm Meaney (Pelé: Birth of a Legend) is the witty and controversial McGuiness.
