Prior to 1843, a critical element would be missing from everyone’s Christmas, both in the UK and abroad: Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.

Crafting a festive novel that would stand the test of time, and supply the people of forthcoming eras with morals to live their lives by, would be no quick or simple task.

The Man Who Invented Christmas allows us to join the famous novelist on his journey to writing a book that would become a staple of the festive season for hundreds of years, if not forever.

Learn how Dickens wove fact and fiction together as if they were seamless to begin with, combining real-life events with his vivid imagination to create perhaps the best Christmas tale of all time.

Bharat Nalluri directs this semi-biographical account of Dickens’ early years, having directed a handful of feature-length films in the past, including Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day. However, he is perhaps best-known for his TV directorial credits, having worked on MI-5 and Life on Mars among others.

Dan Stevens stars as Dickens himself, having appeared in The Guest in 2014, and more recently, Beauty and the Beast. Bringing Dickens’ character, Ebenezer Scrooge, to life is Christopher Plummer (The Exception), while Miriam Margolyes (The Harry Potter franchise) portrays Mrs. Fisk.
