Full film details

With the wintry winds and brutal Midwestern cold front sweeping over Cincinnati, emergency shelters saving the homeless population from sub-zero night-time temperatures are at full capacity.

But as the days are becoming unbearable too, the homeless community has resorted to seeking refuge in the public library – if only for the facilities and a few hours of warmth before the freezing night ahead.

However, the situation grows more serious when a person sleeping rough is found dead outside the library. With the homeless problem worsening in the city, those vulnerable have become fearful they could be the next one to be found lying lifeless on the pavement.

Deciding to act, homeless man Jackson (Michael Kenneth Williams) rallies his 70-strong group of destitute friends, as they refuse to leave the warmth of the library at closing time. Librarian Stuart Goodson (Emilio Estevez) has built a good relationship with the group and sympathises with their stance.

But as the doors are barricaded shut and the night draws in, the desperate defiance is met with riot police, politicians and reporters. With the civil unrest escalating, the fine line between right and wrong begins to blur more than ever.

This engaging and dramatic social commentary is brought to us by Emilio Estevez (The Way, Bobby), who also stars alongside Taylor Schilling (Orange is the New Black, Argo), Alec Baldwin (Motherless Brooklyn, Mission: Impossible - Fallout), Gabrielle Union (The Birth of a Nation, Bad Boys II), Jeffrey Wright (Westworld, The Hunger Games series), and Christian Slater (Mr. Robot, The Wife).
