Colliding two different sports together might sound like a farfetched plot to a film, but on 26 August at the Las Vegas Strip in Nevada, that’s exactly what’s happening. The undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. will go head-to-head with UFC Lightweight Champion Conor McGregor in a boxing match that has the whole sporting world talking, and we’re broadcasting it live on our super-sized screens. Here’s why you won’t want to miss it at Vue.
This is no traditional boxing match
The fight will be held under boxing rules, but this is by no means a regular matchup. Bringing together two of the biggest names in boxing and UFC, this is a spectacle for the history books. Their larger-than-life personalities beg to be seen on the big screen, and it’s bound to be an unforgettable event when they finally step inside the ring.
Mayweather’s perfect record is on the line
Heavily backed by the bookies and boxing fans, Mayweather will be looking to build on his perfect record of 49 wins and zero loses when he squares up against McGregor. As one of the best defensive boxers of all-time, the odds are majorly stacked in his favour, while this is McGregor’s first ever outing in professional boxing.
But the UFC Lightweight Champion is known for knocking out his opponents. He has a longer reach and youth on his side. A defeat for Mayweather could prove humiliating, but UFC fans wouldn’t be surprised to see their man make history.
See how their fighting styles compareIt’ll be fascinating to see how their fighting styles vary, given McGregor’s lack of professional boxing experience and the fact he’s usually allowed to knee and kick his opponents in the head. Mayweather, meanwhile, is notoriously fast and adept at avoiding hits – a trait that will no doubt be useful against someone as fierce as McGregor.
