It’s been almost nine years since the last Bridget Jones hit the big screen, and unless you keep absolutely everything in a diary, there’s a fair chance you’ve forgotten how things ended. Luckily, though, we’re here to provide a much-needed recap ahead of the final chapter, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy.
Oh yes, and we’re also going to explain how you could win yourself a tasty free treat. Spoiler alert, you’re going to need a pair of pyjamas.
So, what’s Bridget Jones’ story so far?
Let’s go back to the beginning, shall we? In the first film, which was depressingly released in 2001, a 32-year-old Bridget decides to get her life in order by writing a rather raunchy diary.
She initially had a thing for her boss, Daniel Cleaver (Hugh Grant), before realising he was a womanising git. She promptly falls for her childhood acquaintance/posh barrister Mark Darcy (Colin Firth) after convincing him to sack off his girlfriend.
Happy ending right? Well, not quite. Bridget and Mark actually split up in the second film, but only for a moment. After Bridget spends time with Daniel on a disastrous work trip in Thailand, Mark eventually plucks up the courage to propose to Bridget, and she accepts. Yay.
By the time the third film comes along, though, things are once again up in the air. Mark is now married to someone else (wot?) but thankfully in the middle of divorcing her. Bridget is pregnant but there’s some confusion about who the father might be – Mark or billionaire billionaire mathematician Jack Qwant (Patrick Dempsey). It was Mark.
After realising for the third time that they still obviously love each other, Bridget and Mark get back together and they live happily ever after with their baby. Well, for a while.
What’s going on in Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy?
Surprise! It wasn’t a happy ending after all. Almost a decade later, Mark has now passed away (RIP). But things might finally be looking up for Bridget now that she’s got a great job as a screenwriter and a new handsome boyfriend – who happens to be 20 years younger than her…
Now, what about that free treat?
This Valentine’s Day, don’t just sit at home in your pyjamas feeling sorry for yourself. Do it at Vue instead. We’ll even reward you for it!
Yes, if you turn up to your screening of Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy in your PJs, we’ll give you a free treat. Why? Well, because we like you very much… just as you are.
Please note, you must purchase a ticket for the film in order to claim either a pouch of Minstrels or Popworks. This offer is available from 14 – 16 February. After that, we’re afraid you’ll have to get fully dressed again and act like someone’s who’s actually got their life together.
