A telekinetic teen, a murderous car, and a crazed hotel caretaker are all making their way back to the big screen, which can only mean two things: you’re living in a seriously messed up parallel universe, and Stephen King Season is officially coming to Vue!
Check out the full line-up of titles based on his iconic novels that we’ll be showing between November and December.
CARRIE - AT VUE 7 NOVEMBER
If you ask us, all bullies deserve to be terrorised with telekinesis, which is exactly what young Carrie does to those who pick on her at school. Does she go a little too far with her supernatural ability? Maybe, but seeing everyone get their comeuppance is pure cinematic joy.
THE SHAWSHANK REDEMPTION - AT VUE 15 NOVEMBER
Considered one of the greatest films of all time, this multi-Oscar-nominated classic needs no introduction, but we’ll give you one anyway. When a banker is imprisoned for the murder of his wife and her lover (despite pleading his innocence), he finds himself serving a somewhat unconventional life sentence alongside Morgan Freeman... If you haven’t already seen it on the big screen, it’s time to rectify that immediately.
THE GREEN MILE - AT VUE 16 NOVEMBER
Another multi-Oscar-nominated classic right here, and not just because it stars Tom Hanks. No, this is the gripping (but definitely fictional) story of John Coffey, a wrongfully imprisoned man who possesses a variety of life-saving and life-giving powers. You’re probably going to need your hankies for this absolute tearjerking piece of perfection.
CHRISTINE - AT VUE 23 NOVEMBER
There’s nothing more awkward than when you buy a car and it turns out to be possessed by a murderous spirit. As 17-year-old Arnie continues to repair the banged up 1958 Plymouth Fury, he too undergoes a rather sinister transformation. The moral of the story is never buy a relic from a creepy old man.
STAND BY ME - AT VUE 29 NOVEMBER
Nothing unites four friends like a hiking trip to find a dead body, right? That’s the plot of this surprisingly sweet, coming-of-age classic, starring baby-faced versions of Will Wheaton, River Phoenix, Corey Feldman, Jerry O’Connell and Kiefer Sutherland. A nostalgic one for you and the crew, or a golden discovery for first-time watchers, Stand By Me is yet another must-see piece of film history.
MISERY - AT VUE 6 DECEMBER
Being an obsessive fan is one thing, but holding your favourite novelist hostage in your home after he’s just had a car crash? That’s going a bit far. Kathy Bates is deliciously creepy as said crazed fan, who just wants James Caan to weave her twisted fantasies into his new book. It’s no wonder she won the Best Actress Oscar for this one…
THE SHINING (45TH ANNIVERSARY) - AT VUE 12 DECEMBER
Jack Nicholson was really hoping that an isolated hotel in Colorado would be the perfect place to cure his writer’s block, but instead all it’s done is turned him into a homicidal maniac hellbent on terrorising his family. These things happen, we guess. What better way to end Stephen King Season than with this iconic slice of horror?
