Summer of Blockbusters

The Flash - Now showing at your local Vue

What’s it all about?

DC Superhero The Flash can run so fast he travels back in time (try that, Usain Bolt), and decides to go and fix a few things from the past. But messing with timelines creates chaos — and another version of himself. Can Michael Keaton’s Batman (yes, he’s back!) help him out?

Why you should see it on the big screen:

Thrilling action sequences and irreverent humour — but don’t just listen to us. Tom Cruise said it’s “everything you want in a movie”, while Stephen Spielberg, who knows a thing or two about blockbusters said: “This one is special. It’s heartfelt, funny, and eye-popping. I loved it.”

Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny - At Vue 28 June

What’s it all about?

After 42 years, it’s time to say goodbye to Indiana Jones. Sob. Before the archeologist hangs up his fedora, he’s off on one final adventure — and he’s taking his goddaughter, played by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, with him. The pair are on the hunt for a rare artefact called the Archimedes Dial.

Why you should see it on the big screen:

Because Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones is one of the most iconic big screen characters of all time — so it’s the only way to bid him farewell.

Mission: Impossible Dead Reckoning Part One - At Vue 10 July

What’s it all about?

Ethan Hunt is back with another (almost) impossible mission — and it’s his most dangerous yet. He has to track down a weapon that could destroy humanity before it gets into the wrong hands. Cue a thrilling, nail biting race around the world. We seriously don’t know where he gets the energy.

Why you should see it on the big screen:

Big stunts deserve big screens, and they don’t come much bigger than when Tom Cruise is involved. He says this one includes “the biggest stunt in cinema history.” We’re officially excited.

Barbie - At Vue 21 July

What’s it all about?

The world’s most famous doll gets a much-anticipated live action adventure. Directed by Greta Gerwig (LadyBird, Little Women) and starring Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling and a long list of other stars, the film sees Barbie and Ken leave their plastic bubble to experience life in the real world. The vibe looks to be smart, funny and tongue-in-cheek.

Why you should see it on the big screen:

People have been freaking out about just seeing the trailer on the big screen, so excitement levels are off the scale for the actual film. The sets and costumes look incredible, and there’s a brilliant soundtrack featuring Dua Lipa, Haim, Lizzo, Nicki Minaj and Ryan Gosling himself.

Oppenheimer - At Vue 21 July

What’s it all about?

Christopher Nolan (The Dark Knight, Inception, Tenet) directed biopic-thriller about the man who helped create the atomic bomb. This is about as high stakes as drama gets. There’s an epic cast featuring Cillian Murphy, Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Florence Pugh and Robert Downey Jr.

Why you should see it on the big screen:

Because Christopher Nolan always makes his films with the big screen in mind. This was shot using special IMAX cameras for a stunning visual experience, but it promises to be special whichever (big) screen you watch it on. We recommend catching the 70mm IMAX print at Manchester Printworks - one of only 30 cinemas in the world that will be showing it, and the only cinema outside of London showing it in 70mm IMAX.

The Meg 2 - At Vue 4 August

What is it all about?

Sequel to the 2018 mega-box office hit about mega-sized sharks. Despite barely surviving his previous battle with the supersized bloodthirsty beasts, Jason Statham is getting back in the water. We’re sure it will all be fine, Jason ????.

Why you should see it on the big screen:

Because if the big screen isn’t made for seeing Jason Statham go head to head with a monster shark, then what is for? People loved the first film for its playful take on the summer horror genre, and this looks just as entertaining.

Blue Beetle - At Vue 18 August

What’s it all about?

A young man accidentally comes into possession of an ancient alien artefact called the Scarab (we’ve all done it, right?) that gives him superpowers — plus a neat looking beetle suit of armour. Blue Beetle is DC Studios’ first latino superhero, and he’s also the first character to form part of the new DC Universe

Why you should see it on the big screen:

For a fresh take on the superhero story, and to escape into a whole other world: the movie has created a whole new fictional city called Palmera that will look incredible on the big screen.
