4K Season - Close Encounters of the Third Kind
Spielberg’s genre-defining masterpiece returns to mark its 40th anniversary, allowing a new generation to experience Close Encounters of the Third Kind on the silver screen.
When electrical lineman, Roy Neary (Richard Dreyfuss), spots a UFO while out working on some emergency repairs, nobody will believe that what he saw was real. His wife and children are sceptical to begin with, but Roy’s growing obsession to learn the truth behind the mysterious presence begins to strike fear in them.
Why would a man of such logical mindset suddenly be willing to drop everything to pursue something he didn’t believe in? As Roy searches for the truth, he meets with others who have had similarly unusual experiences. Together, they end up on at path that leads to Devil’s Tower, Wyoming.
The truth, it seems, is just around the corner.
How does a director follow Jaws, a movie which redefined popular cinema and kickstarted the summer blockbuster trend? Spielberg pulled it off with style and panache with Close Encounters of the Third Kind, and then continued a run of iconic movies throughout the eighties and up to the present day. It’s a career unmatched by anyone before or since.
Not only does it feature a classic score and the infamous mashed-potato sculpture scene, but was ahead of its time in its portrayal of alien life forms. Now, 40 years after it dazzled cinemagoers, the sci-fi classic returns to its rightful home for generations old and new.
Audiences will also be treated to a short about the making of the film which includes an all new interview with Steven Spielberg.
