An uncle is forced to take care of his teenage nephew after the boy's father dies in this multiaward winning film.
Lee Chandler (Casey Affleck) is nowhere near becoming a father. He lives alone, works alone and spends his free time alone in a city far away from anyone who really knows him. And he’s okay with that.
But one day, unexpected tragedy strikes. And everything changes.
Lee receives news that his brother Joe (Kyle Chandler) has suddenly died, leaving behind his teenage son Patrick (Lucas Hedges). When Lee returns to his hometown, a small community on the Massachusetts North Shore, he learns that he has been named as Patrick’s legal guardian.
Taking care of Patrick means moving back to the hometown he has so desperately tried to wipe from his memory, and facing people he’s done everything he can to forget – including his estranged wife, Randi (Michelle Williams).
Lee struggles to come to terms with his brother’s death, as well as get to know his grieving teenage nephew.
Faced with the biggest decision of his life – take responsibility for his brother’s child, or walk away and return to the quiet solitude of the existence he has carved out for himself – Lee is forced to reconcile emotions and memories that he has been running away from for years.
Kenneth Lonergan (Analyze This) wrote and directed this quiet yet touching drama, which
stars Casey Affleck (Interstellar), Michelle Williams (My Week with Marilyn) and Lucas Hedges (The Grand Budapest Hotel).
