Orange Wednesdays: What it was and what???s replaced it
The deal invited cinema goers to get two movie tickets for the price of one up and down the country from 2003 to 2015. Although the promotion has gone, cut-price movie-going hasn???t - now Meerkat Movies has stepped in to satisfy cinema fans with TWO days of cheaper tickets.
But what was Orange Wednesdays?
The now-defunct mobile phone operator Orange began to offer 2 for 1 movie tickets on Wednesdays in 2003 to Orange customers. Or if you were lucky enough to have a kind friend who was with Orange, you could make up the second half of the 2 for 1 offer.
To get it, all a customer had to do was apply by text message and Orange would send back a code to use when buying tickets.
Why did the offer end?
Saying its customers??? viewing habits had changed, EE decided to end the Orange Wednesdays offer in December 2014. The final days of the offer came the following February.
What is Meerkat Movies?
Shortly after the end of Orange Wednesdays, comparison website Compare the Market jumped in and offered 2 for 1 tickets with its promotion Meerkat Movies ??? named after its famous meerkat mascots. It???s still running today.
The offer allows you to gain cheaper cinema tickets on both Tuesdays and Wednesdays, as opposed to Orange Wednesdays??? offer of just one day per week.
