Unless you’ve been living in a literal cave for the past couple of years, you’ll probably be aware that a new Batman film is on the way. You may also be aware that it’s kind of a big deal. Starring Robert Pattinson as the man behind the cowl, this dark new take on the DC hero is quite simply going to be one of the biggest releases of the year.
Here are a few reasons why you should definitely be excited about it.
Here are a few reasons why you should definitely be excited about it.
It’s like no Batman film we’ve seen before
Like any film where the main character is inspired to fight crime after witnessing the murder of his parents, Batman flicks have a tendency to get a bit dark. However, this one is really taking things to the next level. Described as a chilling and gritty detective thriller, The Batman is said to be heavily influenced by the Zodiac murders and the suitably broody music of Nirvana.“He’s like a Batman Kurt Cobain,” director Matt Reeves has said of the film’s titular hero, who’ll be going up against The Riddler in a deadly game of cat and mouse. It sounds like a much grungier version of Batman and we're here for it.
Gotham’s packed with famous faces
As if Robert Pattinson in a bat suit wasn’t enough cause for excitement, he’s also joined by a supporting cast so star-studded it’s frankly unfair on other films. Zoë Kravitz is Catwoman, Paul Dano is The Riddler, Colin Farrell is The Penguin, Jeffrey Wright is Commissioner Gordon and Andy Serkis is Alfred. We could rave about this line-up all day, but there’s only so much space on the internet.New suit, new Batmobile, new gadgets – and yes, they come in black
What’s a new Batman film without a fresh suit, car and gadgets? The Dark Knight is sporting some impressive-looking clobber for this one (are those gun parts in his chestplate?), and his ride is giving off some serious Fast and Furious-meets-Knight Rider vibes. As for the new toys, we know he’s stashing some kind of taser that looks incredibly effective when used against an enemy’s head.Batman’s gonna get brutal
As we well know, our boy Bruce isn’t afraid to smash a few faces and break a couple of bones when he’s out enforcing his own brand of justice, but this version of the Caped Crusader truly takes the bat biscuit. If the trailers are anything to go by, Pattinson’s Batman will be one of the most brutal we’ve ever seen on the big screen. The combat looks so ruthless and vicious, we almost feel sorry for the criminals on the receiving end. Almost.
The director means business
If there’s one thing that instils confidence in a film, it’s a quality director. And The Batman certainly has that in Matt Reeves. This is the guy who brought us Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes, two epic blockbusters packed with action, expansive world building and some serious emotional depth. So yeah, just imagine what he???ll do with these classic DC characters and the moody world in which they inhabit.
