Suicide Squad brings the dark side of DC Comics to the big screen, as a group of villains are brought together to fight those even more dangerous than they are (no small feat). But just who are these oddballs, and what are their chances of actually taking down Batman when he appears in the film?

Words Abigail Chandler
Suicide Squad
AMANDA WALLER – VIOLA DAVIS

Who is she? Amanda Waller – earning the nickname The Wall in the comics – is strong, imposing and impossible to get around. She’s the US intelligence officer who puts the Squad together so that the US government has some entirely deniable assets to use for dangerous missions. She keeps them in line with threats and promises and will get the mission done – even if it means losing some of the Squad members in the process.

Should you be scared of her? If you have any sense.

Chances of taking down Batman: 9/10 – no one should underestimate Waller’s ability to get what she wants.

Suicide Squad
DEADSHOT – WILL SMITH

Who is he? Deadshot is an expert marksman who acts as an assassin-for-hire. He cares about nothing in the world apart from his daughter, the one soft spot which Amanda Waller manipulates to get him to join the Squad. He prefers to work alone, so joining the Squad is his idea of hell.

Should you be scared of him? Not unless someone paid him to kill you.

Chances of taking down Batman: 8/10 – he could shoot Batman if he wanted to, but we don’t think he wants to.
Suicide Squad
HARLEY QUINN – MARGOT ROBBIE

Who is she? Harley started life as Harleen Quinzel, a skilled criminal psychiatrist who was doing fine until she was assigned a new patient – The Joker. He drove her insane and she fell in love with him, becoming his sidekick. She seems to have swapped her traditional mallet for a baseball bat in this film.

Should you be scared of her? Harley’s a sweetie-pie – so long as she’s not having a lover’s tiff with Mr J.

Chances of taking down Batman: 6/10 – Harley’s probably come closer than most to killing the Bat, but she’s got a big heart.
Suicide Squad
ENCHANTRESS – CARA DELEVIGNE

Who is she? Dr June Moon is a smart young woman possessed by an ancient witch who wants nothing but trouble. Amanda Waller has found a way to control the immensely powerful Enchantress, leaving poor June at the mercy of both the witch and the The Wall. Waller would be naive, however, to think that Enchantress is that easily mastered.

Should you be scared of her? Hell yes – Enchantress is more powerful than anyone on the team.

Chances of taking down Batman: 10/10 – There’s nothing in Batman’s utility belt that can help against magic.
Suicide Squad
RICK FLAG – JOEL KINNAMAN

Who is he? Flag is Waller’s second-in-command and accompanies the Squad on missions – after all, someone needs to be there to keep them in line. He’s the best marksman in the US Armed Forces, but he’s got nothing on Deadshot. Will he keep hold of his morality, or will the Suicide Squad be a bad influence on him?

Should you be scared of him? He’s a highly trained killer – he’s scarier than some of the criminals.

Chances of taking down Batman: 1/10 – a military man ain’t got nothing on Bats.
Suicide Squad
KILLER CROC – ADEWALE AKINNUOYE-AGBAJE

Who is he? A half-man half-crocodile hybrid who seems to be evolving backwards, Croc is in danger of losing the humanity he’s got left. Strong and resilient, he’s just as adept at sneaking up on people as a real crocodile is – so long as he’s in his particular element: the sewers.

Should you be scared of him? He looks scarier than he is.

Chances of taking down Batman: 5/10 – he’s given it a good go. Many times.
Suicide Squad
DIABLO – JAY HERNANDEZ

Who is he? A gang member with the ability to generate and control fire, Diablo isn’t quite as fearsome as his face tattoo suggests. His power is difficult to control and has led him down a dark path before, and he is seeking redemption when he is enlisted into the Squad. If he doesn’t learn to control both his temper and his power, he could be more of a liability to the Squad than a valued member.

Should you be scared of him? He’s more scared of his abilities than you are.

Chances of taking down Batman: 7/10 – he could certainly burn the Batcave to the ground.
Suicide Squad
KATANA – KAREN FUKUHARA

Who is she? Unlike other Suicide Squad members, Katana is not a villain (although she is a killer). Like Flag, she’s there to keep the others in line. She wields Soultaker, a Samurai sword that contains the souls of all whom it kills. In the comics she is hell bent on avenging the deaths of her family, and her personal mission can sometimes get in the way of whatever job she’s been sent on.

Should you be scared of her? Not unless you’re a baddie – Katana is an honourable woman.

Chances of taking down Batman: 3/10 –they’re more likely to team up than fight.
Suicide Squad
CAPTAIN BOOMERANG – JAI COURTNEY

Who is he? This devious, hard-drinking Aussie has a habit of causing fights and riling people up, so we can expect sparks to fly among the team thanks to him. He boasts an arsenal of high-and-low-tech boomerangs, which can be nastier than they sound. His choice of weapon does tend to make him a bit of a laughing stock in the comics, but he’ll punch anyone who so much as smirks at him.

Should you be scared of him? Only if he’s had a drink.

Chances of taking down Batman: 2/10 – dude’s weapon of choice is a boomerang.
Suicide Squad
SLIPKNOT - ADAM BEACH

Who is he? He’s a master with knots and ropes, capable of tying unbreakable knots and managing tackle and grappling hooks. He’ll be a valuable asset to the team if they need to stage any sort of heist of break-in. Got a building to scale? Slipknot’s your guy.

Should you be scared of him? Only if you have a fear of being constrained.

Chances of taking down Batman: 2/10 – an unbreakable knot wouldn’t faze the Dark Knight.
Suicide Squad
THE JOKER – JARED LETO

Who is he? Do you really need to ask? The Joker is probably the most famous comic book villain ever, but his backstory remains a mystery to this day. All we know is that he’s violent, unpredictable and he has a really sick sense of humour.

Should you be scared of him? WHY AREN’T YOU ALREADY RUNNING?

Chances of taking down Batman: 10/10 – Joker always takes down Batman, at least temporarily.
